Aerodrome Great Lakes

This page is devoted to
the numerous participants of the Aerodrome® 1.1 games that I run in conventions
across the mid-west. I now use a pilot rating system.
The system is designed to reward pilots who not only score kills, but also who
return to base and are on the winning side of a mission. This cuts down on
the reckless carefree flying which was quite evident in early events. The
scoring system ![]()
Aerodrome is a WWI aerial combat game where players use WWI model aircraft and attempt to shoot down enemy aircraft. Players must use strategy and skill. As there is almost no reliance on dice, the individual pilots are solely responsible for their own success or failure. Turns are plotted 3 increments at a time, so players must try to anticipate enemy maneuvers in order to bring them down while at the same time trying to avoid being shot down themselves.
The rules are very simple and quick playing. 15 minutes of explanation and the new pilot is off and flying. Missions last 30-90 minutes. Players earn awards and promotions for successful play. A player's kill totals and rank are logged and carry over from convention to convention. Any pilot who obtains 25 kills will be awarded an "Orden Pour le Merite" (Blue Max) pin and will additionally be given a special in game bonus. At 50 aerial victories, a player is awarded a museum quality replica of the "Orden Pour le Merite" (Blue Max) medal. At 75 aerial victories, a player is awarded a museum quality replica of the "Orden Pour le Merite" (Blue Max) medal with oak cluster in a larger display case. The original medal display must be returned to obtain the new one. No, you don't get two of them. ;)
